Ghost Games has been given extra time to work on the next NFS title for 2015

Electronic Arts has confirmed that it won't release a new Need for Speed game this year, as it's allowing Ghost Games to work more on the ambitious sequel to last year's NFS: Rivals.

EA in recent years has released yearly installments in its Need for Sped racing series, with some setting new benchmarks for the franchise, like Hot Pursuit, while others failed to live up to expectations, like NFS: The Run or NFS: Most Wanted.

With last year's NFS: Rivals, rookie developer Ghost Games showed that it could produce a fine racing experience in line with what's expected of the franchise.

However, while it was pretty much confirmed that a new title would appear in late 2014, Electronic Arts has revealed in its recent financial earnings call that Ghost Games has been given more time to work on the racing experience and that it will not debut in the 2014 financial year, which ends on April 1, 2015.

Given the strategy of the publisher, you can bet that a new Need for Speed title will appear in the fall of 2015, presumably only for PC and new consoles like the PS4 or Xbox One.

Last year's Rivals was launched on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
