The development team at DICE currently working on Mirror's Edge has not offered too much information about the next installment in the series, but it seems that the company might be planning to use the name Catalyst for it.

The official Twitter account has delivered a short message on the platform, with the image attached to this article included.

Mirror's Edge - Catalyst might mean that the studio is aiming to create a video game that will pick up the themes of the previous installment and will serve as a bridge to an even bigger adventure.

Given the timing of the announcement, DICE might be planning to make an official reveal for the video game during the coming Electronic Arts press conference at the E3 2015 event.

The two companies have registered a trademark for the name recently, but the application does not offer any details about the kind of experience they are working on.

Mirror's Edge - Catalyst might also refer to another type of content associated with the series, maybe a comic book or even a novel, that might arrive to bridge the gap between the video games in the franchise.

Only Electronic Arts can clarify the kind of content that DICE is working on, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

A new Mirror's Edge will probably be delivered in 2016

The free running game has been a critical success but failed to generate a lot of sales, and DICE has said that it is aiming to introduce a number of new mechanics in order to widen its appeal, even if it will not change its fundamental nature.

Mirror's Edge - Catalyst will probably be a PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 title and gamers should be prepared to get access to it at some point in 2016, probably in the fall rather than the spring.

At the moment, the development team at DICE is focused on the coming Star Wars Battlefront first-person shooter, which will be introduced on November 17 of this year.

The game is important enough for Electronic Arts to mean that most if not all the resources of the studio are at the moment devoted to its core mechanics and multiplayer infrastructure.
