BioWare has clarified a few things about its ongoing projects, confirming that the recently established Montreal division is actually working on the next Mass Effect game while the core Edmonton branch, which handled Mass Effect in the past, is hard at work on a brand new intellectual property.

The Mass Effect series has entertained tens of millions of fans from around the world with its top-notch blend of third-person shooting and role-playing elements, not to mention the great story that centered on the main character, Commander Shepard.

BioWare closed the trilogy of games focusing on the hero last year with Mass Effect 3, but it's now hard at work on quite a few projects, including a brand new Mass Effect title with a new hero.

Speaking at a PAX East panel over the weekend, via Kotaku, Mass Effect Executive Producer Casey Hudson revealed that the next game in the series will be a fresh experience and that it's going to be primarily developed by BioWare Montreal, the studio that collaborated on the second game and developed the multiplayer in the third one.

"We are starting to get ready to develop another Mass Effect game, and it's going to be a new thing," Hudson said.

"We want to be able to give fans an opportunity to get back into the world with these things you've come to know and love about the Mass Effect experience but start something fresh and new—a new way for you to explore the whole universe in Mass Effect."

While the change in developers might worry fans, Hudson emphasized that the core Edmonton team will constantly communicate with their Montreal colleagues to make sure the core of the series is respected.

Meanwhile, Hudson also revealed that he and the main group at Edmonton are busy working on a brand new property that was first confirmed last year.

"We are developing a whole new fictional universe at BioWare for myself and Preston [and other main Mass Effect trilogy creators.] That's kind of our next thing," Husdon said.

"We're focusing on building something new the way we did at the very beginning on Mass Effect."

As of yet, no details about the next Mass Effect nor about this new IP have been revealed just yet.
