Nothing will contribute to driving the adoption of Windows Vista as next generation games. The prediction has been authored by Rahul Sood, chief technology officer, Global Gaming Business Unit, HP. At HP's Gaming Summit at Dogpatch Studios, Sood forecasted that Microsoft's DirectX 10 technology integrated exclusively into Windows Vista will fuel the generalization of the operating system in concert with upcoming games. "DirectX 10 is going to provide a dramatically improved gaming experience that will drive adoption of Vista," Mr Sood said.

DirectX 10 is the latest version of DirectX. Together with Windows Vista, the DirectX 10 suite of multimedia application programming interfaces is designed to evolve the user audio and video experience. However, in the end, DirectX 10 is about gaming. And Windows Vista will deliver the next generation of 3-D graphics-rendering capabilities.

And since DirectX 10 will be at the core of every ultimate in-game and multimedia experience, Sood made it clear that he regards gaming enthusiasts as the perfect consumers of Windows Vista.

"Gamers are early adopters and high-performance enthusiasts who can test drive advanced technologies that could someday be broadly applied to other computing capabilities," Sood explained. "HP is focused on putting its Labs technologies into the hands of our gaming customers and partners to push the limits of today's gaming experience and define new possibilities for the future."

According to data made public by HP, gamers just in the United States have thrown in excess of $20 billion dollars at gaming software and hardware in 2005.
