Mobile phone maker Motorola is expected to come to the market during the ongoing year with successor to their popular Motorola DROID X smartphone, one that might sport the codename of Daytona, though it could be named differently when launched on the market.

A series of details on the specs and capabilities of the yet unannounced handset already emerged into the wild, pointing at a device that would resemble both with the first DROID X smartphone as well as with the recently announced DROID Bionic or ATRIX 4G.

All in all, the upcoming smartphone is expected to hit the shelves with about the same looks as the original DROID X handset, though it would include different internals, a recent article on Hot Hardware suggests.

While retaining the 4.3-inch size of the touchscreen display on the original, though a more denser one, the second generation DROID X should pack a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 application processor from NVIDIA, which would offer it far more performance capabilities than the older device.

Other specifications of the handset would also include a 540 x 960 pixels resolution for the display, along with USB 2.0 connectivity, DLNA streaming, an HDMI output.

Moreover, the smartphone should also offer an 8-megapixel photo snapper with support for 720p HD video recording, and a series of other enhancements too, including faster performance when compared to the camera on the original DROID X.

The upcoming mobile phone is also expected to arrive on shelves with the same battery as on the DROID X, as well as with a microSD memory card slot for additional storage space.

Unfortunately, specific info on the operating system it would run under lack at the moment, though it seems that Motorola has it powered by the Android 2.2 Froyo OS version currently (an upgrade to a newer flavor of the platform is also expected).

No details on the availability or pricing of the handset emerged for the time being, but it should not be too long before it would be announced officially, it seems.
