In a Swedish TV interview, Gearbox's Randy Pitchford discloses some details on its upcoming Aliens licensed first-person-shooter, which although not dubbed Aliens yet, will surely contain the word in it later on, when it starts to take better shape. The good news are that the Aliens game will be a next-gen title.

In the meantime, a translation of the interview with Gearbox's Randy Pitchford was provided by Gamespot. Here are some bits: "First up was Gearbox's forthcoming shooter based on James Cameron's 1986 sci-fi classic Aliens. Development for the project is apparently well under way. "We're working really hard on that right now," said Pitchford. Sega is publishing the game in conjunction with 20th Century Fox, which owns the film rights" the site reports.

"The executive also revealed some tidbits about the plot of the Aliens game, which is due on "next-gen platforms" in 2009. "Our game's about becoming a Colonial Marine, and looking at it from the Colonial Marines' perspective," explained Pitchford. The Colonial Marines battled the acid-blooded xenomorphs in Aliens, and were a template for the troopers who fight alongside the Master Chief in the Halo games."

I'm sure you didn't understand much, but as Pitchford stated that "There's people on our production team that share things with them," explaining that Neverwinter Nights II and the Aliens one were "going in totally different directions." So hopefully, we'll have one of them by the end of the year. The studio's head also revealed that "Our game's about becoming a Colonial Marine, and looking at it from the Colonial Marines' perspective," speaking of the Aliens title.

Next-gen games take far too long to make though, so I guess it's a long shot to see either title this year. However, I wonder what next-gen platforms it's going to hit eventually, because word on the street is that developers and publishers are running away from the PS3 like crazy, so that leaves one next-gen console, the Xbox 360. Ok, the Wii too, but I'm telling you, as fun as the machine is, it barely fits the next-gen description.
