The infamous Aakash tablet will be getting a next-gen model that will apparently arrive on the market by the end of March with a price tag of Rs. 3,999 / $64 / €47.

NDTV reports Telecom minister Kapil Sibal announced that the Aakash 4 would become available with a 7-inch scratch-resistant capacitive touch screen, 4GB of in-build storage (expandable via microSD to 32GB), a frontal camera, Wi-Fi, 2G, 3G and 4G.

There’s no mention of what processor will power the budget slate, but I guess it doesn’t really matter that much, since the tablet is not targeted at demanding users. It simply aims to provide a tablet computer to everybody opened to the idea.

Originally, the Aakash was created in order to facilitate every students’ access to technology and Internet for educational purposes, but since then the project has taken off and the tablet has been launched in the US and UK, as well.
