On ABC's “This Week” airing on Sunday, political strategist for the Republican party Karl Rove has suggested that the next GOP presidential candidate might support gay marriage.

“Karl Rove, can you imagine the next presidential campaign, a Republican candidate saying flat out I am for gay marriage?” he was asked by host George Stephanopoulos.

Rove responded with a simple “yes” and didn't elaborate further, but his answer was enough to make headlines.

If that is the case, this could mean a change of stance on marriage equality for the GOP and perhaps a different take on the upcoming Supreme Court hearing on the Defense of Marriage Act.

As I discussed in the past, the law imposes a definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman, stripping gay married couples of their federal benefits.
