It seems that the next video game in the Battlefield franchise is at the moment under development at the Visceral Games team and that it will use the name SWAT, with launch set to take place during the autumn of this year.

The information comes from the Twitter feed of an insider that has been offering accurate details about unrevealed projects of other major teams, but there has been no confirmation from any other source, although the game was allegedly recently shown to a limited audience in its alpha form.

Apparently, an official announcement that will only include limited amount of footage and details about Battlefield SWAT is being planned for the upcoming E3 2014 event, which will start on June 10 in Los Angeles.

Neither the development team at Visceral Games nor publisher Electronic Arts has offered any sort of comment on the report, but even the very fact that they are keeping quiet might mean that the info is accurate.

A lot of fans of the Battlefield series have been disappointed by the rumor because it means that they will not get the much-awaited Bad Company 3 experience that they have been pushing for soon.

A SWAT video game that uses the Battlefield setting will probably focus on smaller maps, more tactical movement and on a smaller number of enemies.

It’s unclear whether the team at Visceral Games aims to create a multiplayer-only experience or if they are also putting together a single-player campaign.

If Battlefield SWAT launches in the fall of this year, it will face tough competition from its traditional rival, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare from developer Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision, as well as Destiny from Bungie.

At the moment, public information states that Visceral Games is actively involved with the Star Wars franchise, which Disney is developing in video game form with Electronic Arts.

Former Uncharted Director Amy Hennig is involved with the project, which does not yet have a name or a launch date.

An official announcement will probably be made later in 2014 and the actual title will be delivered when the new movie in the Star Wars series arrives in cinemas.

Battlefield 4 was launched in the fall of last year and Electronic Arts claims that the title has been a commercial success, despite the fact that it was affected by plenty of problems for a while after release.
