Back at MWC 2011, we've had the chance of attending a couple of very interesting conferences held by Mr. Anand Chandrasekher, senior vice president and general manager of Ultra Mobility Group (UMG), and, to be perfectly honest, we were quite impressed by his speeches and deep involvement with the technology he was working on.

For this reason, Intel's announcement regarding the departure of Mr. Chandrasekher came as a huge shock, since we honestly weren't expecting this seasoned executive, with a lot of experience in the field of ultra-portable and mobile computing solutions, to give up on Intel just as the company is preparing to tackle heads-on the field of next-generation tablets and smartphones.

According to the press release by Intel, Mr. Chandrasekher wasn't forced to leave, but decided to do so on his own terms, saying that he was going to “pursue other interests,” which can only mean that either he's entered some type of conflict with Intel's top brass (less likely) he's got a better job offering from one of Intel's rivals.

Given this situation, we couldn't help but remember one of our previous articles regarding the topic of AMD's search for a new CEO to replace Dirk Meyer, ouster post-CES 2011, which also listed Mr. Chandrasekher as a possible candidate for this important position.

With this in mind, we'd dare to say that AMD might have finally found their CEO, given the fact that Mr. Chandrasekher really seems to fit the profile of what AMD was really looking for in their future CEO: a person with a huge level of experience in the field of mobile computing, that will drive the company's business forward, into the field of mobility.

Of course, this might only be speculation for the time being and Mr. Chandrasekher might actually be heading in a totally different direction, but, to be perfectly honest, this is something only time will ultimately tell.
