Have an ultrabook that could really use a better SSD? Or maybe you have an HDD inside it and want some faster storage, to allow the OS to boot nearly instantly and games to launch just as fast.

Well, you just got your wish. OCZ has introduced the ARC 100 Series solid state drive, which has a capacity of up to 480 GB and a transfer speed of up to 490 MB/s.

More specifically, the drive has 120 GB, 240 GB, and 480 GB versions, is less than 7mm thick, and can read data at 490 MB/s.

The write speed isn't clear, but it could still be of above 400 MB/s, or at least close to it if below that mark. The up 4K random write performance is of 80,000 4K IOPS (input/output operations per second).

Toshiba A19 nm NAND flash chips were used in the newcomer's construction, as is the case for many recent solid state drives. Indilinx Barefoot 3 M10 controllers are responsible for the reads and writes though, hence why performance isn't any higher.

The 120 GB, 240 GB, and 480 GB OCZ Arc 100 Series SSDs have prices of $75 / €75, $120 / €120 and $240 / €240, respectively. 256-bit AES-compliant encryption is supported by all of them.
