Audio solutions meant to accompany mobile computers are quite common these days, but this didn't stop Altec Lansing from creating a new portable speaker set to start selling in the very near future.
Audio solutions, like pretty much everything else on the IT market, come in many shapes, sizes and performance parameters.
The shape and size, however, are the most relevant in determining exactly what sort of situations they are most suited for.
Basically,
speaker systems intended for large rooms and the like will, naturally, be large (both the satellites and the subwoofer).
Meanwhile, audio solutions intended for traveling are, obviously, much more compact, even if this does mean a lower audio intensity and quality.
Altec Lansing decided to create the Orbit USB Stereo (iML247), an USB-powered, ultraportable speaker.
Granted, most users will probably just prefer a set of headphones, but a full-fledged speaker can still play an important role when one isn't traveling alone.
The developers decided against wireless connectivity and made it so that the power form an USB port is enough for operation, so that batteries aren't required.
The Orbit even has a retractable stand that allows one to aim the sound in multiple directions.
"Any laptop user knows the sound quality of those tiny speakers typically leaves something to be desired. Whether it's for business or pleasure, people depend on the audio from their computer. The Orbit USB Stereo was developed to enhance the existing sound quality and create a more dynamic listening experience," said Steve Schlangen, Altec Lansing Senior Product Manager.
"We designed the Orbit USB Stereo with portability in mind. Whether it's a cross-country business trip or a simple stroll from the dorm, the compact and durable Orbit USB Stereo goes everywhere you'd take your laptop."
Sales should commence by the end of the ongoing month, for the price of $49.95.
