The baby okapi walked around its enclosure together with its overprotective mom

This past Thursday, a newborn okapi named K'tusha made its first public appearance at Bristol Zoo. The baby okapi walked around its enclosure for a while, and its overprotective mother kept a close eye on it at all times.

Okapis are also known as African unicorns, wildlife researchers explain.

What makes people stare at them in amazement is the fact that they look as if they were the result of some malfunction at the wild animal factory, if such a thing even existed.

Long story short, their tongue is not all that different from that of a giraffe, and the strips on their bodies appear to have been borrowed from zebras.

Sources say that the white strips sported by these animals make it easier for their offspring to see them and follow them as they pace through the dense vegetation.
