Almost two weeks ago, a female elephant living at Ramat Gan Safari Park gave birth to a female calf. The baby elephant was born during nighttime and weighed nearly 80 kilograms (176 pounds) at birth.

Its keepers say that most newborn baby Asian elephants weigh about 100 kilograms (220 pounds).

Because of this, they've decided to name this calf Tang, which reportedly translates as “thin girl.”

Despite being underweight, Tang appears to be in good health. She is presently looked after by her mother, La Belle, and her grandmother, La Petite.

Both females are nursing her and keeping a close eye on her at all times.

Since Tang is La Belle's first offspring, there is little doubt La Petite's decision to help raise the calf was more than welcomed.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the newborn baby elephant's grandmother is pregnant herself.
