Foxconn doing a poor job at assembling some iPhone 5 units

Well, this is embarrassing. Apparently, early adopters of the elusive iPhone 5 are not only receiving factory-scuffed handsets, but also units with their volume buttons reversed.

Hon Hai Precision could be pushing their workers a tad too hard to assemble Apple smartphones, according to a photo published on the web by a customer of Apple’s. Right off the Foxconn conveyor belt comes this iPhone 5 unit (first one shown above) with its volume buttons reversed.

We could theorize that, as a result of the brawl in Taiyuan, some workers wanted revenge. Could this design defect actually be intentional? Most likely, no. But anything’s possible.

This image certainly doesn’t help Apple in a time when it’s accused of shipping already-scuffed units, while also having to deal with a PR debacle over its new Maps application.

Tim Cook probably doesn’t even have time to enjoy his coffee these days.
