Sad Scale can help screen for depression in the General Population, PostPartum Depression and Geriatric depression, and has been designed to take advantage of the iPhone's unique abilities (accelerometer and touchscreen). The application tracks scores and graph results via three screening tests.
According to the app's makers, the test can be taken multiple times and the user can track for depression. It also takes them to different online resources for additional help. Deep Pocket Series explains that users can email the results to their Primary care doctor, OB/Gyn doctor, or health care provider via the app's interface. The company additionally outlines that Sad Scale is not a substitute for seeing a health care provider. Sad Scale contains the Zung depression test, the Geriatric Depression scale and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale.
