Deep Pocket Series has introduced Sad Scale 1.0, a depression screening solution for iPhone and iPod Touch. Sad Scale can help screen for depression in the General Population, PostPartum Depression and Geriatric depression, and has been designed to take advantage of the iPhone's unique abilities (accelerometer and touchscreen). The application tracks scores and graph results via three screening tests.

According to the app's makers, the test can be taken multiple times and the user can track for depression. It also takes them to different online resources for additional help. Deep Pocket Series explains that users can email the results to their Primary care doctor, OB/Gyn doctor, or health care provider via the app's interface. The company additionally outlines that Sad Scale is not a substitute for seeing a health care provider. Sad Scale contains the Zung depression test, the Geriatric Depression scale and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale.

“This application should be used with your health care provider,” Deep Pocket Series advises those interested in purchasing the app. “It does not replace the judgement of a professional health care provider. Please discuss using this app with your health care provider.”

In the official report, Harvey Castro, CEO Deep Pocket Series, states that his goal is to increase awareness of depression and that he hopes this app will cause patients to seek professional help and make a difference in someone's life. Dr. Castro focuses on the creation of innovative educational solutions featuring high yield medical information, which has led to the formation of Deep Pocket Series. The Deep Pocket Series aims to help other health care professionals continue to expand and review their medical base knowledge, according to the report.

Sad Scale requires an iPhone or iPod Touch running OS 2.0 or later, and can be acquired from the iTunes App Store using the link below.
