The next Apple tablet will be 0.81 mm thicker, according to the latest measurements

A new iPad 3 leak is being reported in China where Apple.pro points to a new photo showing the tablet’s back shell getting measured to determine any difference between the current-generation of Apple tablets, and the next.

And there is a slight difference, apparently. As previously reported, the iPad 3 is slightly thicker than the iPad 2 (some say because of the backlighting mechanism required by the Retina display), and by slightly we mean almost impossible to perceive.

The two shells were measured with a digital caliper. The person doing the measurements could confirm (or at least indicate, as the photos show) that the iPad 2 measures 8.69 mm in thickness, whereas the alleged iPad 3 shell is 9.50 mm thick. The difference is 0.81 mm, something that most people upgrading from the iPad 2 probably won’t even sense.
