According to a person privy to iOS 4.3 betas, Apple has enabled a feature allowing users to purchase ringtones directly from their iPhone. The tests show that this option will be enabled at least for owners of an Apple iPhone 4.

Cultofmac reports that the feature, tested on an iPhone 4 running the iOS 4.3 Gold Master, can be found in the Settings app in iOS 4.3.

From there, users must tap Sounds, Ringtone, and then Buy More Tones. The user will be taken to a Ringtones store where he /she can purchase their preferred tune from a long list of available ringtones, some of which are priced at $1.29 (for the more expensive ones).

There are, of course, many other ways to get ringtones onto your iPhone, including ringtonefeeder.com, a service that offers a more affordable method to get new and catchy ringtones all the time.

Of course, for owners of a Macintosh computer with iLife installed, it’s cheaper and more fun to actually create ringtones. Users can either take existing songs and slice them up, while those with some degree of musical knowledge can fire up GarageBand and compose their own in minutes.

iOS 4.3 will be released on March 11, in tandem with the iPad 2 launch. The software update will deliver key new enhancements to all iDevices, such as the Personal Hotspot feature for GSM iPhone 4 units, or the option to toggle between two functions of the hardware-switch found on the iPad.

Additions that are common to all supported devices include a more powerful Safari web browser, thanks to the Nitro JavaScript engine, the enhanced AirPlay, and iTunes Home Sharing, which allows iOS 4.3 users to play music, movies and TV shows on an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch from their iTunes library on a Mac or PC over a local Wi-Fi connection.
