Presumably because of screen issues

It has been revealed that Apple’s newest iMac, the huge, 27-inch all-display model, is suffering from a wide range of issues. From problems seemingly occurring during the manufacturing process, to the improper way of handling shipments, the new iMac is downright jinxed. To be noted that only the big, 27-inch models seem to be affected.

This is why Apple is believed to have delayed the latest shipments. The company’s web store lists their availability in no less than two weeks.

"The new iMac has been a huge hit and we are working hard to fulfill orders as quickly as possible," an Apple spokesperson told CNET. "We apologize for any inconvenience or delay this may cause our customers." Apple, of course, hasn’t acknowledged any particular issues with the systems.

The site points readers to a support thread on the company’s Apple Discussions forum, where 81 pages of comments and complaints have been spotted from users experiencing issues with the new iMac. As ironic as it may seem, Apple is putting the most emphasis on the new iMac’s screen, the very component causing all the grief for early adopters.

Computerworld, for its part, is reporting that a new Web site has been set up by Web designer Scott Pronych to track the problems of the faulty computer. The site keeps an evidence of all the reported problems ranging from flickering displays to hard drive failures. There is even a category for issue-free iMacs, where happy Apple customers can show everyone how smug they feel.

Softpedia note

Really, what’s the point of tracking good-condition iMacs too, since those who are not experiencing any issues probably won’t even end up looking at that web page? The site is called "Apple iMac (Fall 2009) Issues," isn’t it? Perhaps the respective category is there for comparison reasons. However, people whose computers work great have less of an urge to list specs and all kinds of details about their purchase when they’re not even expecting anything in return. Those whose iMacs are broken, on the other hand, will do everything in their power to be as vocal as possible, hoping that Apple will fix their issues.
