It appears device manufacturers are borrowing design concepts from one another

If you think avant-garde furniture design and technology don’t really have anything in common, you might want to reconsider your option, once you have laid eyes upon Kurt Merki Jr. iMac Pro concept design.

The designer confessed that even as a kid he had a keen interest in observing the complex shapes of the Macintosh/Apple products and avidly explored every inch of the Macintosh Classic machine they were using in school. So after Apple’s 30th Anniversary Mac campaign, he became inspired to create his own vision.

Anyway, taking a look at a concept image, you get the feeling that you’ve seen this before, somewhere else. And we have, the design bears a particular striking resemblance with the Lenovo Yoga multi-mode tablet, which was released months ago.

Basically, the iMac Pro concept resembles an oversized Lenovo Yoga tablet, even though Merki said he drew inspiration from the all-new Mac Pro with its cylindrical design and the iMac.

Anyway, Lenovo might be accused of stealing the idea from other manufacturers too. For example, Sony had a similar design (Tablet S), which it abandoned at some point in the past to adopt the more chiseled rectangular design we see in the Xperia line-up today.

But that’s not all, the Lenovo Yoga also looks ridiculously similar to one of Apple’s wireless keyboards, although some might feel it’s a bit of a stretch to compare an accessory to a tablet.

By the looks of it, in the crowded sea of tech products, it has apparently become quite difficult to innovate, so device manufacturers are re-using concepts and trying to put their own spin on things. But will consumers buy it?
