Symantec launched two new backup appliances at the VMworld 2011 in Las Vegas, which should help organizations modernize and improve their backup infrastructures.

The newly released devices can be deployed in as little as 30 minutes, thus helping organizations in the quest to better protect their information, in both physical and virtual environments. These backup tools should also help deduplicate data in order to improve efficiency and reduce functionality costs.

According to the official press release from the company, the Backup Exec 3600 is designed to reduce IT complexity by providing administrators a clear catalog view of their backup sets from which they can later select an object to restore.

Symantec Critical System Protection is implemented into the device to offer a total virus and malware security protection.

Equipped with their V-Ray technology, Symantec Backup Exec 3600 is an all-in-one backup appliance. Thanks to its integrated client and target data deduplication component, which is designed to protect virtual and physical machines, it's an excellent choice for medium-sized companies which can't afford a large numbered IT staff.

The NetBackup 5220 is said to reduce backup volume and network utilization by as much as 99 percent and it should simplify remote office protection.

The device also features tape-out capabilities and an automatic image replication feature for a shorter recovery time.

“Having a backup appliance that supports virtual environments allows organizations to have consistent service levels and performance,” said Parag Patel, the vice-president of Global Strategic Alliances.

“As companies move to modernize their infrastructures, they continually look for backup solutions that will accelerate new initiatives around virtualization and cloud computing with increased reliability,” he also said.

These devices are available only in North America but they will be present in other countries in the following period.

Companies that already use previous versions of the devices can repurpose their licenses to deploy the new products.
