It would appear that a certain new series of processors from Advanced Micro Devices is not all that Acer is using to update its PC line, two of its desktops having received more of a cosmetic update than anything else.
Nowadays, computers can be divided into three groups, depending on the target consumer segment, those being entry-level (low end), mainstream (mid-end) and enthusiast (high-end).
Then again, there are certain configurations that meld the elements of two or all of these categories, such as the new Aspire M and X desktops from Acer.
Basically, while the hardware is of the mainstream level, the looks of these two fits in more with the low-end market than any of the others.
The cases with few embellishments are the main culprit behind this feel, but this will work especially well for consumers that prefer this sort of thing.
That said, the hardware within isn't exactly something that can be frowned upon, although, true enough, the Athlon II X4 AMD processor or the Intel Core i3 (Pentium Core Dual Core on the X Series) (depending on user choice) aren't the strongest chips around.
On the flip side, the X Series boasts 4 GB of RAM (random access memory) and a hard disk drive of 500GB or 1TB, while the M Series has 6 GB of memory and 1 TB of storage.
Additionally, the former comes with a SuperMulti optical drive, while the latter is equipped with a DVD writer.
As one may have already guessed, the Acer Aspire X Series is the more compact of the two. As for pricing, the X starts at $398, while the M sells for $500.
Granted, the
report behind all this information does say that the two items haven't actually become available yet, but it shouldn't take too long for them both to start showing up in North American online stores.
