Seventeen Pakistanis who had been imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay told the media they had witnessed several cases of Koran desecration at the U.S detention facility in Cuba.
The Pakistani men were freed on Monday from a Lahore jail nine months after they have been released from Guantanamo Bay prison.
According to their interviews for the Associated Press, some U.S interrogators
have thrown, torn or just stood on copies of the Koran, while U.S guards used to flush the Islam's Holy Book down the toilet.
Airat Vakhitov, one of seven Russian prisoners who were released from the Guantanamo Bay last year, made the same allegations. Vakhitov stated that the interrogators intended to provoke the prisoners with such a behavior.
One of the Pakistani released prisoners also claimed that naked woman sat on prisoner's chest during some of the questionings.
Some of the scandalous allegations were previously confirmed by a Pentagon report in the form of Koran mishandling cases, but none of the present statements have yet been confirmed. According to a Pentagon release, al-Qaida may have taught the detainees to make this kind of false accusations.
Anti - U.S protests have previously risen after a report on Koran desecration confirmed cases had been published by Newsweek magazine, which later retracted the report.
