This coming October 24, people living in New York will attempt to set the world record for simultaneous apple crunching.

Thus, citizens in this part of the US are kindly asked to make sure they have an apple in their proximity, and crunch it either at 12pm on the dot, or whenever best suits their busy schedule.

Apparently, the people behind this project hope that these coordinated efforts will allow New Yorkers to come up with a “crunch heard 'round the world,'” Tree Hugger informs us.

In case anyone was wondering, the Americans who agree to take part in this apple-crunching event will in fact be celebrating Food Day, meaning that their crunching said fruit will supposedly help promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.

Those wishing to register for the Big Apple Crunch can do so here.
