Is there anybody who thinks Yahoo is not focused on Yahoo Messenger? Because this would be at least silly since the Sunnyvale company updates all the flavors of the instant messenger client, even if it is the web-based service or the downloadable solution. Today, a new version of Yahoo Messenger hits the market: the web based version released a few months ago is now improved with some useful functions able to improve the chatting experience. For example, you're now able to send SMS mobiles to your friends from the US, India and Canada in a matter of seconds. Moreover, Yahoo Messenger for the Web automatically organizes your contact list, sorting all the mobile friends in a separate group.

"Now you can send text messages (SMS) to your friends' mobile phones for free, right from Yahoo! Messenger for the Web. When your friend replies, it comes back to you in Messenger. You'll notice the contact list is now divided into two areas: regular IM contacts and Mobile Contacts," Sarah Bacon, Product Manager at Yahoo, proudly announced today in a blog post.

Keep in mind that Yahoo Messenger offers this function for free but the mobile operator might charge you and your friends for sending SMS messages.

In addition to the new feature, Yahoo also rolled out two new languages for this flavor of Messenger as well as new languages for the Indian flavor. Besides Thai and Indonesian, Yahoo also implemented Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada.

In case you never tried the web version of Yahoo Messenger, I recommend you to give it a try because it might offer some unexpected features for your own chatting pleasure. Besides the fact that it is accessible through a simple instance of your browser, you're not required to install anything so you can chat with your friends from multiple locations.
