Let's face it, Windows Phone sales haven't been so great so far. The platform is available on the market for over a year, but the latest analyst reports show that it has been constantly losing ground on the smartphone market, ever since, and that things are not looking too bright for it at the moment.

However, Microsoft is trying to turn the tables, not only through partnering with new handset vendors – read Nokia and its commitment to the Windows Phone platform, – but also through putting in place special promotions for those who might be interested in purchasing a new device.

One of these deals involves the acquisition of a new Windows Phone and the possibility to enjoy $25 worth of applications for free and is available for all users in the United States and Puerto Rico.

The Windows Phone Marketplace has over 40,000 applications available for download at the moment, and users will be able to enjoy great software for free as part of this promotion, that's for sure.

The promotion is available for new Windows Phones purchased starting with November 2nd through December 31st. Users will receive a prepaid $25 app card that has to be redeemed by February 14th, 2012.

“Through the end of the year, we’re giving a prepaid $25 app card to anybody who buys one of the great new Windows Phones now on sale. The prepaid card makes it easy to jump start a new app or game collection. Buy a new phone, get a new $25 prepaid app card,” a new post on the Windows Team Blog reads.

“If you’re thinking of leaving your current smartphone (I won’t mention any names) for a Windows Phone, the new offer (good in the U.S. and Puerto Rico) also makes it easier to replace apps you’ve already paid for.”

Make sure that you head over to Microsoft's website here for entering the promotion and keep in mind that it is available only in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Happy purchasing!
