Microsoft has made available for download a new release of Windows Live Messenger. If you happen to have some children around, and if they happen to be speaking German, then both you and them are in luck. This because, first of all, the new Windows Live Messenger is tailored for children to use, and second, its official brand is actually Windows Live Messenger Fur Kids. Yes, the copy of Microsoft's instant messaging client for children is in fact aimed at a select German-speaking audience, and is not available in English. And the linguistic handicap can by no means be overcome that easily, with Microsoft offering no indication at this point in time when, or even if it is planning an English version of Windows Live Messenger for kids.

"Windows Live Messenger for kids is specifically designed to provide a safe entry in the Instant Messaging world," a Microsoft spokesperson revealed to Neowin. Just as the general plain vanilla release of the IM client, Windows Live Messenger for kids requires that users download and install the application. But with the initiative, the Redmond company aims to give parents a tad more control over their children’s instant messaging practices. Aimed for kids ages eight to ten, Windows Live Messenger is designed for parents to set up the client for their children and even to monitor and approve their list of friends.

At the same time, Windows Live Messenger for kids comes to the table with limited functionality. Users will not be able to show off their pictures or share files for that matter. At the same time, the instant messaging client provides children with a “panic button” designed to alert the parents in the eventuality that they are submitted to any sort of improper behavior including bullying or harassment.

According to Microsoft, Windows Live Messenger for kids requires Windows XP SP2 or SP3, or Windows Vista, a processor running at no less than 800 Mhz, and at least 128 MB RAM (256 MB or more recommended). Microsoft released Windows Live Messenger 9.0 (2009) RTW at the beginning of January 2009. In the first week of February, the software giant offered an IM upgrade taking Windows Live Messenger 9.0 (2009) up to version 14.0.8064.0206.

Windows Live Messenger 9.0 (2009) version 14.0.8064.0206 is available for download via this link.

The update is ruddy awful to loook at - hurts my eyes. It is so poor I cannot believe they have released such a poor visual product. How can I uninstall it?
