New Windows 8 leaks are to be expected, if rumors circulating on various forums hold any truth (tey usually do). Some testers are in fact waiting with bated breath Windows 8 Build 6.2.7971 to leak into the wild, which hasn’t happened as of yet.

I first came across speculation about this new Windows 8 leak a few days ago, but so far none of the rumors managed to come to fruition.

Some users have even started asking questions to sources of previous Windows 8 leaks about the availability of Build 6.2.7971, but there’s no deadline as to when or whether if indeed the leak will go live.

There have been no less than three leaks so far, Windows 8 Milestone 1 Build 7850, Windows 8 M2 pre-M3 Build 6.2.7955.0 and Windows 8 Server M3 Build 6.2.7959.0.

These unauthorized releases continue to be available for download in the wild through a range of illegal sources among which the world’s most popular torrent trackers.

Meanwhile, Microsoft continues to focus on the development of Windows vNext behind closed doors in Redmond.

The software giant insists on not sharing any details with the public at this point in time, and this will most probably be the case as long as Windows 8 is still quite far from Beta.

According to sources familiar with the development process of Windows 8, Microsoft is indeed approaching the Beta development stage, with Build 8000 said to be an important milestone.

Windows 8 reportedly climbed as high as Build 6.2.7996.0.winmain_win8m3.110429-1810 at the end of April 2011, but there has been no additional information about the platform’s evolution since.

Still, as it approaches Beta, Windows 8 will be shared with more and more early adopters, and a broadening testing pool generally means that additional leaks will also become available to more testers.

UPDATE: It appears that Windows 8 Build 6.2.7971 might not leak after all.
