This year's London Boat Show start has fortunately coincided with the launch of a very important addition to the Yachting and Boating World: an online maritime weather service that is said to be the best so far. Powered by Theyr.net, a numerical weather forecast service, it gives the most accurate information, due to the 0.1 degree resolution used.

For those who are not familiar with the above term, it means that the data offered is numerically 100 times more, the usual
degree data used being 1. The service will be showed off at the IPC Marine Media stand at the London Boat Show starting today, and up to the 20th of January at Excel.

"Offering first class, precision weather data builds on this foundation and places YBW.com streets ahead of its nearest rival, cementing our position as one of Europe's leading marine websites", said Dan Foley, editor of YBW.com. It's a wonder that they haven't introduced this type of service earlier, everybody knows how important the weather is for sailors, especially for those going out at sea on ships that have sails as the main or the alternative method of propulsion.

Additionally to the above mentioned accuracy, it also provides free 14-day tide tables and the Met Office supplied shipping forecast, which is updated four times a day.

David Young, managing director of theyr.net, said: "We know how important detailed and reliable weather data is to all marine leisure enthusiasts, so teaming up with YBW to provide YBW.com's new free weather service will bring our high quality and detailed weather forecasts to YBW's extensive and discerning audience."

I wonder whether this could have saved the Titanic from sinking, but I'm guessing not, they went down because of an iceberg not a storm, but still I'm sure that Leonardo would have been happier if he knew that the captain had the weather covered. Perhaps, the Black Pearl and Johnny Depp would have liked it better.
