Microsoft released a new wave of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 packages on June 30, 2009. At over two months since Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 were released to manufacturing, the Redmond company is making sure that customers worldwide will be able to integrate the second service pack for the two platforms in their supported native language. In this sense, the remaining Vista SP2 RTM localized versions have been released through Microsoft's Windows Update infrastructure, and will make their way to Vista computers around the world.

“Back on May 26th, we announced Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 hit the RTW milestone. The first wave of languages (English, German, French, Spanish, and Japanese) was made available on Windows Update at that time. Today, we are releasing the remaining languages for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 to Windows Update,” revealed Brandon LeBlanc, Windows communications manager on the Windows Client Communications Team.

Microsoft released Vista SP2 to manufacturing at the end of April 2009. As was the case with Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 SP1, the latest service pack is also designed to upgrade both the Windows client and server operating systems preceding Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. The General Availability of Vista SP2 at the end of May was welcomed with sensibly less enthusiasm than that of SP1. This is understandable considering that SP1 managed to fix Vista and that user attention is currently focused on Windows 7.

“If you have Windows Update configured to download updates automatically, Windows Update will notify you when Windows Vista SP2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2 is ready to be installed,” LeBlanc added. Waiting for SP2 to be delivered through Windows Update is the best option to integrate the new service pack if you aren't in a hurry. WU will identify your operating system along with the language settings and serve only the bits that you need. You still have to agree to install the service pack. SP2 will not be deployed without user interaction or accept.
