This time, Ericsson has been selected to bring its WCDMA/HSPA network to Bhutan Telecom (BTL), a government-owned corporation operating in all telecom domains. This includes latest services for fixed-line, broadband, GSM, ISP and ILD.

As part of the agreement, Ericsson will supply an HSPA-enabled network, including WCDMA radio access equipment, all-IP core and transmission. Moreover, the company will also be the one taking care of the design, deployment and integration of BTL's existing GSM network.

It was only natural for Bhutan Telecom to choose Ericsson for its services, as the company has a huge experience in upgrading telecom networks and providing the most evolved solutions. "The need to roll out a state-of-the-art network cost-effectively to provide our customers with the best possible communication experience was of paramount importance. This contract extends our long-running relationship with Ericsson, with their industry expertise making them the natural partner of choice for this project", commented Thinley Dorji, Managing Director at BTL.

The new network will provide a great number of services, including high-speed internet access, e-mail, video telephony, MMS and several content-based services. "Ericsson is extremely proud to be selected by Bhutan Telecom for the first WCDMA/HSPA launch in the country and it reflects our broader vision of bringing communications to all", said Mats Granryd, President for Ericsson in India and Sri Lanka.

Ericsson currently provides its telecom services in more than 140 countries. This makes it one of the most powerful communication companies in the world. This also means high profits, as the company brings its services around the world to a great number of countries, especially emerging ones that are set for a great evolution in the near future.

The new Ericsson network will be available starting this November in the towns of Thimpu and Paro. After this, it will go nationwide, at full potential.
