Microsoft has just released a new version of Skype, as the company still struggles to patch a security hole that could allow hackers to break into specific accounts using only an email address.

Skype 6.0.0.126 comes with stability and performance improvements and can be installed on all Windows versions, including Windows 7 and Windows 8. Both 32- and 64-bit versions of the OS are supported.

Of course, those running Windows 8 can always install their dedicated Skype version available in the Windows Store, but this is the only one that can be launched from the desktop.

The Windows 8 Skype places a tile on the Start Screen and runs in full-screen. It doesn’t come with the same rich feature package as the desktop version, but it keeps running in the background without affecting the overall stability of the operating system.
