The developers at
Epic Games have announced that they are about to release Gears of War 2 Title Update 6 that will contain a pretty long list of fixes for the original title. The main addition is a new matchmaking option called Social Xbox Live that will enable gamers to join multiplayer engagement in progress. This option will be available to players who have bought all downloadable maps, a package named All Fronts Collection.
The patch means to fix other problems that have persisted since the title's launch. On the multiplayer side, it will enhance host selection using bandwidth testing and taking into account previous hosting data and it will fix exploits that permit gamers to get outside of the playable environment of some maps and to gather XP while abusing other players.
On a more general side, two issues that could cause the disappearance of user profiles or saved games will be dealt with. The patch will also feature an improvement to the precision of the Xbox 360 controller's D-pad when selecting weapons.
Gears of War 2 was launched at the end of 2008 to wide critical acclaim and financial success. The game was praised for a story deeper than that of the first installment of the series and for a very interesting multiplayer mode.
This update comes as somewhat of a surprise, given the fact that Epic has recently announced
Gears of War 3. The game is set to end the story of the series and to expand on the gameplay elements that have become paramount to the franchise. It will feature a four-player co-op mode for the campaign, two new characters and new weapons. A new multiplayer mode named Arcade that will have a more classical scoring system has also been mentioned. The game is set to be launched on the 5th of April 2011 in North America and on the 8th of April, 2011 in Europe exclusively for the Xbox 360.
