It can still connect to PCs though, if users want to use it that way

Sometimes people just need to back up a storage unit or simply copy the information from one drive to another, but they don't have a PC handy or don't want the hassle of opening up the case and installing them. Or maybe the warranty depends on the system staying sealed.

Regardless of the reason, there may be a need for means of automatic drive cloning.

Scythe has something of the sort: the SCY-CLN01 cloning docking station. It can hold two 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA HDDs/SSDs.

USB 3.0 is used to hook up the dock to a PC. Windows XP, Vista, 8 and 7 are supported (for XP, the drive capacity needs to be of 2TB or below though, 4TB for the rest).

The best thing about the cloning ability is that the OS drive can be duplicated. One can take a small drive of several hundred GB and copy it on a unit of several TB and presto, instant upgrade without need for reinstalling the OS and dozens of programs.

Sales will start on April 10 for 3,880 Yen (about $41 / 32 Euro).
