Fraudsters are turning to every trick in the book in an attempt to convince unsuspecting users to visit their rogue pharmacy websites, also known as “Canadian pharmacies.” The latest campaign relies on spam messages that leverage the name and reputation of Twitter.

The notifications, entitled “Because you have more to show,” lure recipients by promising them the new type of Twitter profile which includes a larger profile image.

“New Twitter profiles. Make your profile beautiful with a header image. Browse your new photo reel. Check out what other people are doing with their profiles,” the shady emails read.

However, as Sophos experts highlight, the emails, or the links they contain, have nothing to do with Twitter or the new profile. Internauts who fall for the scam and click on the links are immediately taken to a website called “Toronto Drug Store.”

It goes without saying that users should avoid purchasing any products from such websites. If you want to learn how you can identify fake pharmacy sites, you can check out this advisory.
