Troj_Small.Jiu discovered by Trend Micro

A new day, a new Trojan to infect our computers. This time it's Troj_Small.Jiu, a Trojan horse which was discovered by security vendor Trend Micro that informed the infection can be installed by other malware or as a standalone file by any user. "This Trojan arrives as a file dropped by other malware. It can be a component bundled with other malware packages. It can also be downloaded unknowingly by a user when visiting malicious Web sites," Trend Micro wrote in the report.

But what's more interesting is that this Trojan attempts to connect to a malicious website to bring more infected files on users' computers so it servers as a way to deploy the dangerous content on the victims' systems. Obviously, the new infections could be then used to obtain higher privileges on a certain computer and even remote control over it.

Trend Micro informed that the Trojan affects most of the Windows operating system versions excepting Vista, the last release which is supposed to be safer and secure than any time before. So, the users of Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP or Server 2003 are vulnerable to this new threat. The damage potential and the distribution potential are set too low but the Trojan could become pretty dangerous if it manages to bring additional infections on users' computers.

The Trojan attempts to connect to a malicious website to download more infected content and places it in %User Profile% - Local Settings - Temp - update.exe. "However, as of this writing, the URL is inaccessible," Trend Micro added.

If you're currently infected with Troj_Small.Jiu, the Windows ME and XP users are advised to disable System Restore to enable the antivirus full scanning process. "Users running other Windows versions can proceed with the succeeding solution set," the security notification continues.
