Once again, a long time maker of all sorts of storage solutions has decided that it was a good time to step forth and release a new product, in this case a new member of the outfit's extensive solid state drive lineup.

The SandForce SF-2000 series of solid state drive controllers is one that has definitely started to show up in a large number of drives.

Of course, considering the success of the previous-generation line, it would have been strange if this hadn't happened.

Simply put, although the drives they end up powering aren't the cheapest out there, they usually, if not always, stand at the top in terms of performance.

Among other things, this is because they compress data before writing and have a unique set of technologies that “enables the new TeraDrive PT3 to offer enhanced performance, flash durability and data integrity.”

In this instance, it is Super Talent that has called upon the services of the latest-generation controller chips, specifically the SF-2200.

The company created the above-mentioned TeraDrive PT3, which goes beyond 500 MB/s when reading and writing, thanks to the SATA 3 (SATA 6.0 Gbps) interface.

The TRIM command is, of course, supported, and the type of flash used is MLC (multi-level cell) NAND.

"To reach this level of performance, just a few months ago, required two SSDs in a RAID array. Now a new generation NAND flash and the SATA 3.0 interface have clearly moved the performance bottleneck elsewhere," Peter Carcione, SuperTalent director of product marketing.

The TeraDrive PT3 should already be shipping in 60 GB, 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB capacities, although the announcement failed to actually mention the prices themselves.

On the flip side, whether it was intended as a form of appeasement or not, the company even released an official video in which the SSDs are benchmarked.
