Online tool iBatsID can help implement more efficient conservation projects

The British Ecological Society's Journal of Applied Ecology just made it public news that, thanks to a new online tool known as iBatsID, European conservation projects aimed at safeguarding various bat species will soon be much more efficient than they have been in the past.

Apparently, over the past 50 years, Europe witnessed a significant decline in its bat population and, therefore, conservationists are now struggling to protect those still living in various regions of this continent.

However, much like is the case with numerous other animals, proper conservation projects cannot be implemented if the researchers are left in the dark when it comes to pinning down the exact location where these animals are hiding and thriving.

Hopefully, this online library of echolocation calls produced by various bat species will help researchers in better monitoring these creatures, especially since bats are argued to be an indicator of how well natural ecosystems are doing.
