The choice of media available for storing one's multimedia content is absolutely huge nowadays, but it seems that Tascam, a division of Teac, has come up with a product that will unify all that media, namely the BD-R2000 high-definition video recorder.

The multi-format recorder can store video on the built-in 500GB hard drive, perform simple edits (create playlist, divide, delete, name disc, author DVD or Blu-ray disc and menu, photo slideshow) and author a disc menu before burning to standard DVD-Video or Blu-ray format.

It supports video input from DV/HDV cameras (4-pin FireWire) and S-Video, or video files stored to USB 2.0 or SD/SDHC card, while its disc authoring system improves on the shortcomings of competing disc-recording systems.

Additional connectivity options worth mentioning include a HDMI output, as well as Composite (BNC) and component (BNC) outputs, plus a composite video input.

Disc playback is seamless, avoiding the pause between scenes often encountered on other solutions, while scenes can be trimmed, separated and arranged on a menu before committing to a blank disc.

Furthermore, one-touch dubbing allows an entire DVD or Blu-ray disc, USB drive or SD/SDHC card to be stored on the hard drive, then burned to Blu-ray disc at up to 32x speed.

The device supports quite a few recording formats (BDAV, BDMV (HDMV), DVD-Video, DVD-VR, JPEG) and recording modes (MPEG-2 TS, H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC), MPEG-2 PS, Dolby Digital (audio), Linear PCM (audio)), Tascam's BD-R2000 being able to record content onto BD-R (SL/DL), BD-RE (SL/DL), DVD-R (SL/DL), DVD-RW discs, while playback is supported from BD-Video, BD-R (SL/DL), BD-RE (SL/DL), DVD-R (SL/DL), DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD+R (SL/DL) and DVD+RW discs.

Unfortunately, Tascam was a little shy in releasing pricing information for their BD-R2000 multi-purpose video recorder, but since we're talking about a professional product here, it's quite likely that pricing is pretty high as well.
