One of the most important characteristic of a smartwatch is its capability of pairing itself with a smartphone, so users can receive notifications from the handset directly onto the wearable.

The notifications can be pretty diverse, including getting alerts for when a message, a call, an email is received. The main advantage of being able to do that is you won’t have to pull the smartphone out of your pocket, which comes in really handy when you’re in a meeting or crowded in public transportation.

The good news is that if you’re a Pebble smartwatch owner and the BBM app is your preferred way of keeping in touch with friends, family and co-workers, now there's a way you can receive notifications from BBM onto Pebble. This feat can be achieved by virtue of a new BlackBerry 10 app called Talk2Watch Pro.

At the moment, it appears the app is pretty basic when it comes to delivering BBM info, so don’t expect to be granted access to message previews or finding out who the message came from just by looking at your smartwatch.

For starters, the app is only capable of sending a notification to your wrist whenever you get a new BBM message. End of story, no more, no less.

The app will probably be enhanced in the near future, but so far, that’s all it offers. The app’s creator, Benjamin Silwa has been working on a Talk2Watch API reference that will allow developers to connected with the Talk2Watch, in the hopes of bringing about further enhancements.

At the moment, those interested in getting this basic functionality on their Pebble can download the app via BlackBerry World, but it does not come free of charge and will set you back with $3.99 / €2.87.

You might think this is a little too much for a simple app such as the Talk2Watch, but maybe it will warm your heart knowing the developer is still a student, so if you want to support a young talent, you know where to pledge your money.

Note that for the app to work, users will need to have Pebble 2.0 firmware installed on their Pebble watches. If you’re still undecided whether or not this app will work for you, there’s a video detailing the Talk2Watch Pro app for BlackBerry 10, so check it out to get an idea of the look and feel of the software.
