In a strange twist of events it seems everyone online now wants to be on TV and not the other way around as it has been for years. First there were rumors of a Twitter TV show, which the website confirmed but had no direct involvement in, and now it's time for another social network to be headed to the big screen, namely FriendFeed.

Purefold is a new TV series being developed that will use some form of input from FriendFeed. The show is produced by independent studio Ag8 joined by Free Scott, the newly formed entertainment division from Ridley and Tony Scott, and will be inspired by themes from Ridley Scott's cult movie Blade Runner. However it will not have any real connection to the movie or the book it is based on, Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, as the producers couldn't secure the rights to use any material from these sources. “It’s actually based on the same themes as Blade Runner. It’s the search for what it means to be human and understanding the notion of empathy. We are inspired by Blade Runner,” said David Bausola, founding partner of Ag8.

The episodes will be 5 to 10 minutes long and will be distributed online but also possibly on TV, and the action takes place in a world similar to the movie. An interesting thing about the show is that it takes some bold new moves for Hollywood, like releasing all episodes under a Creative Commons license.

However, the best part is that the story will develop interactively with the help of FriendFeed users, and a group for the show has already been created. “We have designed many interfaces for engagement; from character and storylines through to what you see in the films. Unlike most film projects, Purefold is here to help design the products of the future through storytelling. But most importantly, every web service integrates into Purefold - so to answer your question - you will decide how to get involved. More details to follow next week,“ Davind Bausola wrote on the FriendFeed page.
