You might never have heard about half slim type solid-state drives, but that's because they're really rare. The ones that do exist, though, like TDK's SHG4A, are bound to benefit from a nice demand.

TDK has introduced a range of SLC (single-level cell) solid-state drives, which are half the size of 1.8-inch HDDs. That means they measure 54 x 40 mm / 2.12 x 1.57 inches.

In other words, they're almost as small as CompactFlash cards, but they have a different pin-out (the standard SATA connector also used for 2.5 inch type SSDs) and, most importantly, the PCB and chips out in the open.

TDK made them for industrial equipment and embedded devices, and gave them AES 128-bit encryption, the GBDriver power interruption tolerance algorithm, an integrated power supply protection circuit, and capacities of up to 128 GB.

Since these SSDs won't be sold standalone, they aren't priced.
