In a surprising move Reggie Fils-Aime has stated that he firmly believes the Nintendo developed and published New Super Mario Bros Wii will sell better than Activision blockbuster Modern Waefare 2. The new Mario experience is being released for the Nintendo home console while Modern Warfare 2, the first person shooter which is created by Infinity Ward, is coming to the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3.

The Nintendo of America president has talked to GameTrailers TV about the expected performance for the game which introduces significant changes, among them four-player multiplayer. When the host asked whether the game would outsell Modern Warfare 2, Fils-Aime said “Well, Modern Warfare 2's on two platforms, right?” and then settled on saying that “unequivocally” the Nintendo release would be better than Modern Warfare 2 on one of the consoles on which it arrived.

Reggie Fils-Aime then added that “you've got to give me the entire holiday selling season, right, so let's take it all the way through the January NPD data. Yes. I'll take that... I'll put that stake in the ground”. Despite reporting that New Super Mario Bros Wii is set to be better when it comes to retail, the Nintendo man has acknowledged that he is waiting for Modern Warfare 2 to be released in order to play it.

Modern Warfare 2 is already out and players can get it on the PC, the Xbox 360, or the PlayStation 3. This means that the shooter has a head start as New Super Mario Bros Wii is only set to arrive on November 20. Activision has widely said that the new Call of Duty game represents the biggest launch in videogaming history, so it would be pretty disappointing for the company to be outsold by Mario, even if the character benefits from the much-bigger installed base of the Nintendo Wii.
