The results from the latest Retrevo Gadgetology study are out. The consumer shopping and review site asked consumers what was on their holiday wish lists and how much they were planning to spend on gadgets and gadget accessories. Not surprisingly, the iPad tops shopping lists for this holiday season, a finding also highlighted in Duracell’s Toy Report.

According to the Gadgetology study highlights, people plan on spending 16% more on consumer electronics in 2010 than they did in 2009 (higher growth than any other category).

As noted above, the iPad is on top of this holiday's gadget shopping list, followed by the laptop, an HDTV, an e-Reader and an MP3 Player.

Retrevo asked if, in 2009, people found what they set out to buy on Black Friday. 66% of people surveyed said they successfully found what they wanted.

Now, the following question is being asked: “Who's Buying Gadgets This Holiday Season?”

Based on the results of its Gadgetology study, Retrevo believes it has found the answers:

Who's Buying Gadgets This Holiday Season? - 70% of 18 - 34 year olds plan on buying gadgets this holiday season - 53% of 35 - 54 year olds plan on buying gadgets this holiday season - 31% of those 55 years old and up plan on buying gadgets this holiday season Gadget Holiday Spending By Gender: - 65% of men plan on buying gadgets this holiday season - 52% of women plan on buying gadgets this holiday season

Gadget Holiday Spending By Smartphone Ownership: - 83% of iPhone owners plan on buying gadgets this holiday season - 75% of BlackBerry owners plan on buying gadgets this holiday season - 72% of Android owners plan on buying gadgets this holiday season

The consumer shopping and review site asked what people were willing to spend on the most with the in-store Black Friday deal. The results are depicted in the second image down (click to enlarge).

Also noteworthy, Retrevo believes that tablets could beat HDTV this year.

“Unless Android gets it together in the tablet department, Apple could have a very good holiday season,” the site claims.

“When the study asked what was on consumers' wish lists this year the product on the top of most people's electronics wish lists was a tablet followed closely by a laptop, HDTV set, and smartphone. Netbooks and 3DTVs were lowest on the lists,” they concluded.
