The development team in charge of the development of hardware at Valve is ready to show off a new look for its much awaited Steam controller, which is set to be given to game developers to test out at the upcoming Game Developers Conference.

The look of the device has changed in pretty significant ways and it now sports an extensive array of directional buttons in addition to the two pads, as seen on AllGamesBeta.

It's unclear how much the unique haptic feedback elements of the Steam controller have been tweaked by Valve but more information will likely be offered in the coming week.

The new device is designed to launch at the same time as the Steam machine hardware that a variety of companies are putting together and the SteamOS, a Linux based system that will bring the digital distribution service to the living room.

The previous version of the controller was praised by developers, who said that it was the first one which allowed them to create strategy titles that could be played on a console and that its motion control was very accurate.

At the moment Valve has not offered any information on how much it plans to charge gamers who want a Steam controller.
