A new rumor is floating on the web concerning a fresh James Bond game which is currently in development at Raven Software, a developer owned by Activision and responsible for titles like Singularity, Wolfenstein or X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

According to the rumor, the new James Bond game will see the British spy actually performing more spy-stuff, including using stealth to catch opponents off guard, as seen in other franchises like Ubisoft's Splinter Cell or Konami's Metal Gear Solid.

It seems that the project was on hold for quite some time, due to the fact that Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the movie company that owns the rights to James Bond, filed for bankruptcy last month.

Now, as a bankruptcy plan was adopted and assets can be used by partners, Activision is keen on restarting the development of a new James Bond game, especially since the two games that appeared this year, GoldenEye 007 and Blood Stone 007 didn't exactly live up to expectations.

As such, Raven Software is set to continue working on this more stealth-based take on the famous British spy, which won't follow in the footsteps of the recent Blood Stone or Quantum of Solace video games.

According to that same rumor, the revival of MGM might also mean that a green light will be given to a new James Bond movie, which would certainly help it get more money and survive the tough economic climate.

If that happens, you can expect that Raven will deliver its James Bond game close to the release of the possible movie, maybe next year or in 2012.

Up until now, Activision's James Bond game license hasn't exactly been treated right, with lackluster titles being released, but perhaps this new game will make up for them.

What do you think? Is Activision right in pursuing another James Bond movie or should it follow EA's warning and drop licensed games altogether in favor of original intellectual properties?
