Blizzard had a huge success in releasing its last and much acclaimed
RPG, World Of WarCraft: The Burning Crusade. The night of January 15th finally met the fans’ satisfaction. A
game with no equal in storyline and with a real-time legend on its side that has been engraved in the fans’ hearts over the years couldn't have done better on its release.
But hold on! They are already thinking about a new StarCraft to be hitting the market by the end of 2008.
Itzik Ben Bassat, Vice President Business Development and International for Blizzard Entertainment stated on stage: "I'm a StarCraft player myself and I hope it's not a decade, and we launched StarCraft in 1998, before I'm standing here again, celebrating the next game in the series."
If we stop and think for a minute it makes complete sense. The
StarCraft fever started in 1998, when it was released on the PC platform, then Macintosh released its own version of it in 1999, and then it is also ported by Nintendo 64 in 2000. Its storyline features a war between three galactic species: the strong and stable Terrans, the Arthropodic Zerg and the psionic humanoid Protoss warriors.
It was the best-selling computer game of its time and it even won The Origins Award for The Best Strategy Computer Game of The Year. To the present, 9 million copies of it have been sold, including its expansion pack StarCraft: Brood War.
We can only hope for an even greater success if Blizzard keeps up the good work.
