Although some of you are busy reporting bugs in Adium 1.3 Beta 6, some users rely heavily on the IM client for Mac, meaning they cannot afford using anything else but a stable version of the software. Hence, Adium has now reached version 1.2.6 (stable), adding over a dozen tweaks and fixes.

The free instant messaging application for Mac OS X combines an array of IM protocols such as AOL Instant Messenger (including ICQ and .Mac), Jabber (including Google Talk), MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger (including Yahoo! Japan), Bonjour (compatible with iChat), Gadu-Gadu, Novell Groupwise and Lotus Sametime. Adium gives you the possibility to connect with multiple types of accounts at the same time, combining all your friend groups into one big list.

The application is quite easy to use and configure, while the development team offers support for those who might want to tweak the program directly from its source. Uploading or installing new "custom made" Xtras is also possible and fully supported by the team behind Adium.

The program also sports a Mac-like appearance, which makes it blend perfectly with Aqua. While its standard appearance is sweet enough, you can customize it to great extent.

So, what's so special about version 1.2.6 that we felt it was imperative to share with the Mac using community? For starters, Adium 1.2.6 has been updated to libpurple 2.4.3, and sports improved Yahoo! and Yahoo! Japan messaging to use UTF-8 restoring compatibility with the web messenger. The new version also decreases spam on the MyspaceIM service. As far as fixes go, the full list is available below:

- Fixed ICQ connectivity Fixed setting your buddy icon for Yahoo! accounts - Multiple QQ fixes - Fixed some situations which could lead to the dreaded "MSN list synchronization" errors - Fixed an ancient bug in which the wrong event would be displayed for a contact status change, such as "Contact Came Back" when the contact disconnected. (#468, #5551) - Fixed a crash which could occur when a contact changed status while a new chat window was open with that contact (#9425) - Fixed saving/restoring message window positioning on 10.4

Adium is free, Universal Binary, and works with Mac OS X 10.4 or later. Click HERE to get the latest stable version (or the 1.3 Beta 6 if you wish) of Adium.
