Electronic Arts and Maxis have released a new gameplay video of Spore, featuring the game's Producer, Kip Katsarelis. The video depicts Spore's space stage, at which point the player will have evolved its creatures into complex society. The player becomes the leader of the spacefaring civilization / empire, which he / she must expand through the galaxy.

Spore is a “God” game, an evolution sim, designed by Will Wright for the Mac, PC and consoles. The game has players molding up their own creatures which must go through several phases / evolution steps. The goal is to get to the sapient stage of that species, at which point players must create ships and start exploring the Universe, colonizing planets, destroying or making friends with alien beings.

According to the game's producer, the players can make buildings, they have vehicles and weapons at their disposal and more. As captain of the spaceship, the player is tasked with exploring the universe and galaxies within it. Players can destroy aliens, abduct them, terraform planets (turn them into planets capable of sustaining life) and more.

In the video, Katsarelis explains his own experience with the game, and how he simply loves just taking the spaceship for a ride around the galaxy. “You never know what you're going to encounter,” he says. Say you encounter a planet, resided by “ugly” creatures. If you don't like these ugly creatures, you can destroy them, capture their planet, and move towards expanding your empire.

Your ultimate goal is to “push your way towards the center of the galaxy,” according to the game's producer.

A Spore Creature Creator is available for purchase, but also for free download, as a demo. The Creator lets Spore fans create the strangest and most complex creatures, which they can import later on in the full game.

Electronic Arts has also announced the upcoming availability of Spore: Galactic Edition. The package will include the Making-Of and How to Build a Better Being DVDs, a hardback mini-book called "The Art of Spore," and more. Spore is due out on September 7th.
