With all the hype surrounding the new graphics cards, other products might go by unnoticed, or at least less scrutinized than they would otherwise be, but it looks like Pioneer still managed to get its new speaker some spotlight.

This week, speakers have definitely not received much attention, if any, what with the product launch on NVIDIA's side of the graphics market.

Granted, there weren't many, if any, speakers or other audio products released recently, and it is unlikely that they would have received more than a passing glance on consumers' part even if it did.

The many custom models of the dual-chip NVIDIA card and the quickness with which desktop makers adopted it also didn't help.

Still, Pioneer somehow managed to use this situation to its advantage by presenting a fairly unusual speaker dubbed Sound Wing.

Speakers usually come in pairs and, in order to stand out, use one or more special features, or at least optimizations.

The same goes for surround systems, and while Pioneer's Sound Wing is not exactly a speaker system in itself (being just one product), it does have a special asset.

Said asset is the HVT, Horizontal-Vertical Transforming technology, which reduces wasted space by rearranging the coils within the speaker itself.

Granted, the product is still less compact than some might expect (109 mm) but if one were to see it as a forerunner, it should spawn more advanced and slim products.

On walls or ceilings is where Pioneer expects it to be mounted, as made perfectly clear by the new press release issued by it, located on this web page here.

Either way, it won't be possible (for a while) to hear just how well the Sound Wing conveys sounds because sales will only start in June, in Japan. The price will be of ¥41,000, which is the rough equivalent of $507.
